In the summer of 1993, three families in the Burlington area assembled with the objective of starting a church in Burlington that would draw people to Christ through building strong personal relationships.
The Great Lakes Baptist Conference church-planting movement caught the attention of these early leaders who recognized the strength of association with like-minded churches.
In mid-1994, these early leaders took a giant step of faith and called a bi-vocational pastor to lead the effort.
Sunday services were started at a rented facility in Burlington on June 4, 1995, and the first public service was held on March 3, 1996.
The constitution was drafted, a board of elders elected, the organization was recognized as a nonprofit corporation with the state of Wisconsin and downtown offices were opened, all by September of 1996.
Shortly after the constitution and board were in place, the planting pastor resigned, and the church went through the challenge of maintaining a ministry without a vocational pastor for a period of 18 months.
By March of 1998, after reviewing over 80 candidates and reaffirming the mission of the church, Riverwood called a full-time pastor to lead the effort.
During 1999, Riverwood moved services twice due to continued growth, and moved into our new addition at Riverwood in the fall of 2003.
Our renovation of 2012-2013 included an expansion of our kid’s area providing additional space and security to our next generation. In addition, we upgraded our technology, expanded the lobby and added a café.
